What a transmission filter does
A transmission filter keeps wear particles and debris out of the fluid that lubricates the gears and operates the clutches and valves. Heavy-duty transmissions use spin-on filters or filter elements in a housing, depending on the make.

Questions
Can I fit a transmission filter by size?
No. Two filters that fit the same head can differ in media, micron rating and bypass setting. Match by the original part number first.
